Lies and truisms in playing internet poker

Aug 09, 2010

They say that the real charm of poker among all casino games is that any hand can win. The way to do it is of course by lying. The problem with most people is that when they lie, their mouth is saying one thing and their body another. One example would be a boss that tells one of his employees that he has all the time in the world to speak with him but during the talk he repeatedly checks his watch and tap his fingers of the table.
When it comes to lying in poker there are a couple of giveaways, but remember those signs does not apply when it comes to online poker games:
1. The nose – when a person is under stress his hand automatically reaches the nose, when it might scratch or conceal it. Such actions serve a purpose of distracting the mind of the liar from the stressful situation he find himself in.
2. The mouth – When a person is under stress, he tends to wipe his mouth a lot, or tap it, or cover it. All of these actions are called “Blocking gestures”, which are aimed at
concealing the discomfort which results from what is being said. Other giveaways are biting or licking of the lips, and there are also some actions which are more striking, such as sudden dryness or light stuttering caused by stress.
3. The ear – sudden scratching of the ear or brushing of the hair around the ear are actions which signal emotional stress.
4. The eyes – contraction of the pupils is an obvious sign of lying, just like rubbing of the eyes or cleaning them, avoiding direct eye contact or unstable focus - all signs of discomfort facing a given situation.
5. Scratching of the head and brushing of the eye-leads and hair are sings of discomfort.

On top of those signs, it should be noted that blushing, excessive blinking, nervous smiles and repeated changes in body postures are all actions that signal discomfort.
All things mentioned above are sings that will expose a liar and those are the things that poker players build on in order to know who is telling the truth and who is trying to bluff.
When playing internet poker, all of those methods are taken away from us, because when we play online poker we have no indication of the physical state of our opponent. When deprived from observing the opponent, but should pay more attention to his moves.

Like in many other places there are laws. In fact, there are laws everywhere for everything. But, if we are taking about casinos, real casinos like the ones you see in Las Vegas it is completely different from casino online sites. The gambling industry is divided into two types of gambling online and offline.
In offline gambling, the laws are stricter because you are exposed to many responsible bodies like the casino Manager, security manager and other supervisory positions. Whereas in an online casino no one can actually see you and forbid you to play. You can easily find today children entering to any casino on the net, with their parent’s credit card without their permission. In this case it is very difficult to control what’s going on, on the other side of the screen. Therefore, more sites implement a sophisticated and secured system to prevent minors to play in a casino. Therefore, online gambling is illegal in the US players. Yet, not all states in the US permit gambling of any form, not permitted by the government, in their jurisdiction.
Internet casino laws are still in a nascent stage since the Internet is itself is in the process of evolution. However, federal governments all over the world are taking steps to protect the privacy and financial interests of their citizens.

Horrible Mistakes You Should Avoid When Playing Online Casino Games

Nov 26, 2009

When it comes to losing at online casino games, there are mistakes, bad mistakes and HORRIBLE mistakes. No matter what game(s) you enjoy, you’ve probably felt like smacking yourself in the head a time or two. If only had some insight beforehand, you would have known to be more careful. There are plenty of online casino guides that offer tips for winning, but not many of them offer tips for avoiding mistakes?

If you want to lose less in the future, you obviously need to avoid making bad and horrible mistakes. Occasional mistakes are okay here and there, since even the pro’s make them sometimes, but some are bad and should never, ever be made.

Here is a list of horrible mistakes you should never, ever make when playing online casino games.
•    Make wagers on games you don’t know much about. If you’re curious about a game you’ve never played before, try it out for free beforehand. Read instruction guides and study the rules. Don’t outright gamble over something when you have no idea what you’re doing.
•    Go chasing after your losses. Seriously, everyone loses sometimes. You need to learn to accept that fact and get over it. A chase after gambling losses is a chase that never comes to an end. You’ll be chasing forever unless something stops you. Hopefully, next time you’re in the middle of a losing streak, your common sense will stop you.
•    Play when you’re under the influence of alcohol or drugs. If you want to drink and play fun games, don’t choose casino games. There are plenty of other games you can play, for FREE, that are just as fun as Poker and Slots.
•    Not knowing when to quit. If you’re in the middle of a losing streak, quit. If you’re in the middle of a winning streak, quit.
•    Gambling your winnings away. If you’re making wagers, shouldn’t your objective to be to win as much money as possible? Then why turn around losing all your winnings? If you only want to play for fun, then play free games that don’t require money.
